Building the Big Pavilion

If you read about the small pavilion you’d know that I built that one first to better understand how to build a pole building. All that it needs is the roof put on, some trim and some paint!

Pavilions are pole buildings. This type of construction means that there is no concrete slab or footer to bolt the structure to. With a pole building you sink poles into the ground and surround the poles with concrete. As you build your structure around the poles it forms a tight box.

The big pavilion is 20’X14’. The rafters will be 2X6’s spaced every 16 inches. I used 4X6’s for the poles. The poles are 36 inches down into the ground and surrounded by concrete to about 4” from the top of the ground. Everything is pressure treated. The roof sheathing will be 1/2" pressure treated plywood. For the floor I will lay down 2X4’s and filled them in with gravel.
