Building the "Salt Lick"

Pictures of the Salt Lick at Journey Wildlife Reserve

The salt lick houses a pure salt block. The block is sold at Wal-Mart is for water softeners and goes for $5.00. You can also buy mineral licks from stores such as Dicks or Cabelas. It is basically a little house with a roof to keep the rain from hitting the salt block and dissolving it. The house is attached to a 4X4 post which is sunk into the ground. In the late winter/early spring when mothers are raising their babies she will lick the salt lick.
