Building the Stone Steps

One of the cooler things I have done is built some stone steps. When I was growing up, in Highland Park PA, there was a big set of stone steps that led from one park, through the woods, down to the pond. I loved them and whenever I think of the pond I think of those steps.

My friend Tim and I had always talked about putting up stone fascia on his house. I decided to do a small project to see how easy it is to do. Once you do it for a bit you get used to how to lay the mortar. To form the steps I dug up steps in the dirt and laid down half height cinderblocks onto the steps. I then joined each step with red bricks. I slathered mortar all over the steps and then stone fasciaed them with local sandstone. It turned out great and everyone loves them.
