Taking Out Multiflora Rose
I spent the better part of two years taking out BILLIONS of multiflora rose bushes. Some of these rose buses were larger than my truck. You are probably thinking, "Wow rose bushes that big would be beautiful." They're not. They are not the rose bushes you are thinking of. Multiflora rose bushes get small 5 petal flowers for about 1 week. The rest of the time they are razor sharp barbed wire just waiting to slice you up.
The problem with multiflora rose is that if you cut it down or brush hog it it will only come back. It also doesn't burn at all unless it is tossed onto a fire. Moving around multiflora rose bushes is like moving around a large ball of
velcro that will kill you.
I've learned that you must first spray the rose bushes with some type of vegetation killer and then either bulldozer them somewhere or chop them up with your brush hog. Burning them or chipping them in a chipper is a losing battle. If you have a lot of rose bushes purchase a vegetation killer called "Crossbow." You mix it with water and one gallon of it makes 128 gallons of spray. So that you know how many rose bushes the property had I purchased 3 gallons of Crossbow and used all three gallons.
Once the multiflora rose bushes are dead if you wait a year the wood and thorns will become brittle and then you can deal with them.
